Ingredients we excluded

We reviewed 100+ ingredients for Silvie. Here are some that didn't make it into our current formulas, and why.

Under investigation

Those are ingredients that might make it to future products.

Mood Innovation

Saffron

Potential benefits

Powerful botanical for mood.

Reasons to exclude

Interaction Risks. It carries complex interaction risks with common medications, including blood thinners and anti-depressants. Because Silvie Mind is a daily foundation for everyone, we excluded Saffron to avoid contraindications. While we don't believe this a good fit for everyone, Saffron is on our watchlist for future, more targeted products.

Stress Innovation

Rhodiola rosea

Potential benefits

Effective adaptogen for reducing stress-related fatigue.

Reasons to exclude

Lack of long-term safety data beyond 12 weeks for continuous daily use. For a lifelong foundational system like Silvie, we cannot include ingredients without proven safety over extended periods. While we don't believe this a good fit for everyone, Rhodiola rosea is on our watchlist for future, more targeted products.

Brain Health Innovation

Lion's Mane Mushroom

Potential benefits

Supports nerve growth factors and cognitive function.

Reasons to exclude

While its safety profile is high, the current body of human evidence for cognitive maintenance is small and insufficient to justify its inclusion as a proven daily foundational ingredient. While we don't believe this a good fit for everyone, Lion's Mane is on our watchlist for future, more targeted products.

Citicoline (CDP-Choline)

Potential benefits

Potent neuro-precursor for brain health.

Reasons to exclude

While the mechanistic science is compelling, the evidence demonstrating clear cognitive improvement in healthy older adults is currently promising but not well established and contested by EFSA. While we don't believe this a good fit for everyone, citicoline is on our watchlist for future, more targeted products.

Longevity Innovation

Resveratrol

Potential benefits

Sirtuin pathway activation.

Reasons to exclude

Human clinical evidence for substantial longevity benefits is challenging, largely due to its notoriously poor bioavailability, which makes achieving an effective dose at the cellular level difficult to establish. While we don't believe this a good fit for everyone, resveratrol is on our watchlist for future, more targeted products.

NMN & NR (Nicotinamide Riboside)

Potential benefits

Potential for cellular energy & longevity.

Reasons to exclude

The dramatic longevity benefits are predominantly observed in rodent models. The results in humans, while promising for certain metabolic markers, are currently inconclusive for overall lifespan and healthspan extension. While we don't believe this a good fit for everyone, NMN & NR are on our watchlist for future, more targeted products.

Mineral

Iron

Potential benefits

Vital nutrient for blood health.

Reasons to exclude

Pro-Oxidant Risk Management. Iron requirements drop significantly after menopause. Excess unneeded iron can accumulate and act as a "pro-oxidant," contributing to oxidative stress.

Skin and Beauty Innovation

Biotin, CoQ10, Hyaluronic Acid, Astaxanthin...

Potential benefits

These ingredients show promise as being highly specialised "beauty from within" actives for targeted skin hydration & antioxidant defense.

Reasons to exclude

These ingredients are being investigated for a dedicated skincare formulation, coming soon...

Currently excluded

Those are ingredients that didn't meet the bar, either for benefits or safety.

Protein Source

Soy & Casein Protein

The Science

Effective amino acid sources.

Our Rationale

Digestive Comfort & Allergen Reduction. Casein is slower to digest, and Soy is a common allergy. We chose sources designed to maximize muscle support while minimizing gastric distress.

Mineral

Potassium

The Science

Essential electrolyte for fluid balance.

Our Rationale

Medication Safety & Interaction. High-dose potassium supplements can interact with common medications (such as those for blood pressure) and carry risks for those with naturally declining kidney function.

Relaxation

Lemon Balm & Passion Flower

The Science

Effective botanicals for relaxation.

Our Rationale

Avoiding Sedation for Daily Use. We do not want to risk a universal sedative effect that could put off users who want to avoid the feeling of being "drugged" or who need to remain alert in the evening. Our goal is sleep support, not mandatory sedation.

Inflammation

Curcumin (High-Potency)

The Science

Potent anti-inflammatory.

Our Rationale

Specialized Risk & Medication Interactions. Achieving high bioavailability often requires complex formulations that carry potential safety concerns. More critically, it has known interactions with several common medications.

Energy

Caffeine

The Science

Improves alertness and energy.

Our Rationale

Respecting Your Rhythm & Genetics. Caffeine metabolism is highly individualized. We excluded stimulants to ensure you remain in control of your energy and sleep, without risk of interaction or over-stimulation, especially if you enjoy your daily coffee.

Vision

Beta-Carotene

The Science

Often used as a Vitamin A source.

Our Rationale

Advanced Safety Protocols. High-dose Beta-Carotene has been associated with health risks in smokers and former smokers. Since our mission is uncompromising safety for every woman, we exclude it.

Vision & Immunity

Pre-Formed Vitamin A (Retinol)

The Science

Essential for vision and immunity.

Our Rationale

Toxicity Protection & Homeostasis. It is stored directly by the body and bypasses the crucial homeostatic control mechanisms, which can lead to accumulation and potential toxicity over time. We believe in letting your body self-regulate.

Cellular Defense

Grape Seed Extract

The Science

Rich in antioxidants.

Our Rationale

Medication Safety (Blood Thinning Potential). It can have potential blood-thinning effects, which presents a high-risk conflict with the many older adults who take prescription anti-coagulant medications.

Joint Health

Rosehip

The Science

Has shown positive evidence for joint comfort.

Our Rationale

Dosage and Practicality. Clinical trials primarily use high doses (typically 5 grams or more per day). This high dosage requirement would make our daily supplement impractical to take and significantly increase the cost.

Stress & Cortisol

Ashwagandha

The Science

Primary function is to influence the body's endocrine system by modulating cortisol and stress response.

Our Rationale

Specialized Hormonal & Safety Concerns. For post-menopausal women, this specialized hormonal activity carries potential risks of interaction with thyroid or corticosteroid medications. Furthermore, some risk assessments in the EU have advised caution regarding potential liver toxicity.

Mood Support

St. John's Wort

The Science

Highly effective for mood support.

Our Rationale

Severe Drug Interaction Risk. It acts as a powerful inducer of liver enzymes (specifically CYP3A4), which can rapidly accelerate the metabolism of countless prescription drugs (anticoagulants, antidepressants, statins, etc.), rendering them ineffective.
